Dental Fillings

Dental Fillings

A dental filling is a restorative treatment used to repair minimal tooth fractures or cracks, and tooth decay (cavities) or damaged surfaces. It is also used to even out the tooth surface to chew and bite better.

There are different types of materials used by dentists for fillings: amalgam (silver) and composite (tooth colored).

Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed by the dentist over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and/or to improve its appearance. Crowns are highly durable and are used when a tooth has been fractured, has decayed or needs to be protected from external factors.

Crowns are also useful to hold a dental bridge in place and to cover a dental implant.

Dental Bridges

Dental Bridges

A bridge, also known as a fixed partial denture, is a dental restoration used by dentists to replace a missing tooth. A dental bridge is a false tooth or teeth that are placed between two crowns in order to fill the missing tooth or teeth.

The two crowns holding it in place that are attached onto your teeth on each side of the false tooth are known as bridge abutments.

A denture is a removable appliance that replaces missing teeth. Two types of dentures are available today at our dental practice in West Los Angeles:

Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing. It is resin-based denture that has to be supported as much as possible by the gums.

Periodontics - Gum Treatment

Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth. This disease is very common in the US, over 75% of American adults over the age of 35 suffer from some level of periodontal (gum) disease.

Gum disease is generated when your mouth builds up plaque, a sticky colorless film of bacteria that forms on your teeth.

Endodontics - Root Canals

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is the dental process where a dentist gets rid of the infected, damaged or dead pulp from your tooth. When decay enters your tooth through deep cavities or flawed fillings, your tooth becomes abscessed causing pain and/or swelling. When the pulp/nerve of your tooth becomes infected, a successful root canal treatment can save your teeth from extraction.

Snore and Sleep Apnea Appliances

Sleep Apnea

Snoring occurs when there is a partial obstruction of the air through the mouth and nose during breathing while sleeping. Our dentist provides a variety of sleep apnea oral devices that are small plastic custom-fitted appliances worn in the mouth while the patient sleeps minimizing the effects of sleep apnea.

The Mouthpiece devices prevent the soft throat tissues from collapsing and blocking the airway by repositioning the lower jaw, tongue, soft palate, and hyoid bone into a certain position, allowing the patient to breathe easily and continuously.

After a complete diagnosis, your dentist will fit a special appliance to meet your individual condition.

Temporomandibular Disorders

Temporomandibular Disorders

Temporomandibular joint syndrome occurs as a result of problems with the jaw, jaw joint or surrounding facial muscles.

Who can have TMJ syndrome?

TMJ problems affect people of all ages, although patients under 40 years old are more vulnerable and it occurs more in women. We can do an evaluation of your TMJ and offer some treatment options to help alleviate your problem.

Occlusal Guards

Occlusal Guards

Occlusal guards are made of rigid or semi-rigid materials used on your upper or lower teeth to help reduce jaw muscle spasms, prevent teeth wear and cracking, and reduce joint pain. If you have frequent headaches, earaches, sensitive teeth or fatigued jaw muscles, you may be grinding your teeth. The occlusal guard will interrupt the grinding process and will ease the pain allowing you to have more peaceful sleep.

Sports Mouth Guards

Sports Mouth Guards

We highly recommend wearing a mouth guard if you participate in any activity where there is a possibility of receiving a blow to your mouth. You can obtain your custom-fit mouthguards at our dental office in West Los Angeles.

Our dentist will make an impression of the maxillary teeth so your mouth guard can be custom designed in the laboratory. The advantages of having perfectly fitted mouthguards are:

  • It will stay in place while you are wearing it
  • Prevents broken teeth
  • Prevents injuries to the lips, tongue, face or jaw
  • It is easier for you to talk and breathe
  • Provides the most comfort and protection
